The COO role is a unique role amongst the C-Suite and brings with it unique challenges.

Since joining Mosaic from a COO role, I have convened on Mosaic’s behalf on a couple of occasions, an informal gathering of financial services COOs over breakfast to reflect on the role and challenges of the day.

Plans are afoot to reconvene that group for another session (and we welcome any others who have now taken up the COO mantle) soon. In the meantime, as COO’s lean into 2025 I thought this article from McKinsey – “Delivering the strategy: The COO agenda”, published late last year may be of interest.

It notes five key elements for the COO agenda: vision; plan and execution; stakeholder engagement; organisation and talent; and personal operating model.

I thought the narrative relating to one’s personal operating model was particularly pertinent. A COO’s role and expectations are often different to “what got you here” and building a keen sense of self is critical from a leadership perspective.
